How To Organize a PTA or a PTSA
- Contact the Kentucky PTA for guidance and assistance. A packet of information materials can be sent for review or a date can be scheduled for a presentation and an organizational meeting with a state PTA representative.
- Arrange the organizational meeting. After a date and time have been established with the state PTA, distribute notices to all parents, teachers, staff, and community members.
- At the meeting the state PTA representative will give a brief overview of PTA and answer questions. A vote will be taken to become affiliated with PTA. If this is a new association elections are held for either a nominating committee or the officers. If a parent organization with officers is already in place this election is not necessary.
- Dues are collected and bylaws are completed. An SS4 form is filled out and the Kentucky PTA will send the form to the IRS to establish non-profit status.
- If officers are in place or have been elected a date is set for a board training.
