Rock and Read is an inclusive, inter-generational program involving grandparents and senior citizen volunteers who read to young children or listen to older students read.
Rock and Read is simply reading to children in early childhood and primary grades and reading with children in intermediate grades. Rock and Read will help children develop readiness skills necessary for learning to read; enjoy the learning process; and develop self-esteem and emotional maturity through a nuturing relationship.
Volunteers can be recruited though PTAs/PTSAs, faith communities, service organizations, and senior citizen organizations. The volunteers go through a short orientation before beginning the program.
