This is a three-hour training which is ELIA approved.  The training is free but Kentucky PTA does require reimbursement of travel and materials expenses.  This training stresses the importance of parents becoming involved in children's education and supports the value of learning in both home and school.  This training will assist every school in Kentucky in becoming family friendly through relations building, effective communications, decision making, advocacy, learning opportunities and community partnerships.  A rubric will be used to establish and guage success of family and community involvement in all education processes.  "The Missing Piece of the Proficiency Puzzle" may be viewed on the Kentucky Department of Education website:  <a href="http://www.education.ky.gov/">www.education.ky.gov</a>. Kentucky PTA representatives visit your school site for a two (2) hour training session. An outline of a general training includes an overview of the organizational structure, duties and responsibilities of officers and chairmen, and program ideas. Kentucky PTA will be holding its 4th  Annual Combined Convention/Leadership 2010 - Fern Valley Hotel and Conference Center, Fern Valley Road, Louisville, KY July 16-17, 2010 Business meetings for PTA members combined with professional development opportunity for PTA members and others who are interested in learning about PTA. Several workshops covering education topics, health and welfare issues affecting children and youth, PTA programs, awards, and resonsibilities of PTA officers and boards will be scheduled. Budgeting for leadership development for officers/members of your PTA/PTSA is a legitimate expense. Plan to attend Convention/Leadership each summer and start your PTA year with the latest information. SCHOOL BASED DECISION MAKING - SBDM TRAININGS FOR PTAs/PTSAs 1.  What is SBDM and how does it affect each school? 2.  How to Run a SBDM Election? These trainings consist of an overview of SBDM regulations, parent elections, your PTA's responsibilities, and why written procedures are so important.  Know the difference between rules for your PTA officer elections and your SBDM elections.  Have a training now and be prepared for your SBDM elections in the spring.
